Masai Spirit continued Team McBride’s incredible run of form with a gutsy maiden win in a CL6 mile handicap at Chelmsford on Tuesday. The daughter of Charm Spirit out of Eastern Lily built on her promising 3rd over 7F at Kempton a week earlier, benefiting from the extra furlong and a terrific driving ride by Kieran Shoemark.
Off a smart pace at this level Emojie attempted to make all however this suited Masai Spirit and though outpaced as they turned for home Shoemark wound her up and she was easily going best as they moved inside the final furlong, soon getting upside and going away from Emojie to win nicely by 1 1/4L with Penarth Pier 3/4L 3rd. She is clearly on the up and needed 60 day break prior to her run at Kempton.
Charlie McBride’s string are on fire at the moment and this is his best run of results since 2010. His target of 20 winners for the season looks well within reach if the yard stays healthy. Time will tell.
