In what could be her last race for pmracing as she heads for the Mares Sale in December, Minnelli was a disappointing 8 1/2L 6th of 12 runners in a CL6 14F handicap at Wolverhampton on Wednesday. However it is most likely that she had every reason for doing so. Having pulled out of her Kempton Race last week due to a high temperature following a flu jab, she ran flat throughout this one which has nott been the case in her previous runs. That, and a step up 2 furlongs where she may not have got the trip may have been another factor. Certainly she showed nothing of the form that produced such a fine win at Yarmouth last time out.

The race itself should have suited her as it was run at a fair lick. Jockey Steve Donohue said afterwards that she was never going well at anytime yet , as the towards the home straight 2 from home she was still positioned with every chance to go on and win. However Star of Athena swept past her to win easily by 5L with Minnelli unable to pick up running on one paced with Brinkleys Katie and Sea Sovereign grabbing the minor places.

Connections have a conundrum now with little or no options prior to the sales. Going 4 from last on the final day of on the back of this run isnt ideal but she is a winning 2yo by Showcasing and hopefully she will go to a good breeders for a sensible price.
