Fountain of Life showed plenty of promise when 1 1/4L 2nd to Waterfront in a CL6 13.5F handicap at Chelmsford on Saturday. Upped in trip after his improved 10F 6th at this course 6 weeks earlier, Fountain of Life missed the break and having been chased up, sat towards the rear of the field by apprentice Thore Hammer Hansen. He was going easy enough possibly too easy as they quickened 3 from home and he was forced to go wide from the back of the field as they turned for home. This cost him a couple of lengths potentially the race as he was going best of all to chase Waterfront home with Sibylline 1 1/2L 3rd. He must have every chance of this mark next time.

The same cannot be said for Molly Mai who featured in a CL5 10F handicap later. She was also slow away and there was soon some distance between leader Liliofthelamplight and Molly Mai with the race run at a decent pace. Molly Mai never seemed to get going running flat throughout and although she plugged away she never featured finishing 11 1/2L 8th of 10 from Junior Rip. The winner who was tucked in behind the leader, was driven to lead inside the final furlong holding on by a short head from Power of States. Olympic Conqueror was 3/4L 3rd.

It has been a busy campaign for Molly Mai with this her 10th run this season. She needs pace in her races and had that this time so perhaps she needs a break, a drop back in trip or simply there was something amiss. She is certainly better than this.
