Vampish was a surprise and well beaten 4 1/2L 2nd to Hooflepuff in a CL6 12F Claimer at Wolverhampton on Monday. The 4/7 on favourite (9-3) losing to one running off 54 despite Hooflepuff      (9-0) being 15LB wrong on handicap.

Vampish took the field of 7 on from the start but applied little pressure, so it was no surprise when she came under pressure as they reached the final furlong. Hooflepuff was well in control come the finish and Vampish only just held 2nd as Shovel it On got to a head from her. Having run in a CL2 and Listed previously this was far from satisfactory.

Earlier Chiarodiluna put in an improved performance in her 2nd track appearance when finishing 5 1/4L 5th behind Marco Botti’s Gladice in a CL5 7F Maiden Novice Auction for fillies. The 15/8F making all to win by 1 1/2L from Secret Acquisition with Decanter a nose 3rd. Chiarodiluna, who is a half sister to Vampish so is clearly bred for further, never featured at the business end but the education will have done her good and she has potential once handicapping.
